Learn in 1 WEEK at ALS the equivalent of 4 WEEKS of study
elsewhere!
Why?
The only real total
immersion experience!
The language school business
uses the term ‘Spanish immersion’ to designate Spanish
courses which of 4 to 5 hours per day of group language
instruction, in combination with family stays. Four to five
hours of ‘Spanish immersion’ is NOT a lot, certainly when taking
into account that you need more than 500 hours of courses to
get to an advanced level. ALS offers
45 hours of courses per week!
One-on-one instruction.
It’s proven that the learning
speed of one on one instruction is almost double that of
regular group classes. During class, the presence of other
students is more a disadvantage than an advantage. Other
students rarely share your objectives, learning abilities
and level. Couples or
friends, can chose the option of two-on-one classes, almost
as effective as one-on-one, especially if the levels are
similar.
An approved learning
methodology.
Worldwide, the two most used
learning methodologies are the ‘grammatical approach’ and
the ‘conversational approach’. The former offers a
structured way of learning, but is particularly difficult if
the student has little or no knowledge about… grammar itself!
When the students’ native language has no grammar, as in the
case of some Asian languages, this methodology is even
useless. The ‘conversational approach’ avoids the problems
attributed to the grammatical approach, but is less
structured and more difficult for beginners and intermediate
levels. At ALS we use another methodology,
named ARA. It provides results no other methodology can boast.
Developed 30 years ago in Belgium (a country with a long
history in language learning) by one of the founders of
Anders Languages and the University of Louvain, the ARA
learning method can best be compared with the way a child
learns his/her native language: speak it, and then
understand it!
You live and receive your
courses at the same place.
The traditional programs
offer family stays as a way to continue improving your
Spanish and learning more about the culture of
your host country, outside class. Although this can be a
enriching experience, this system does not always work very
well. Many host families try to improve their own knowledge
of foreign languages by using the student as their own
private tutor. At ALS you will find the best of both worlds,
with the amenities and privacy only a hotel can offer, and the
warmth and informal feel of a home stay. Just as in a hotel, you will be able to enter
and leave the residence 24 hours a day. And if you break
something, you can be sure that it won't be a family heirloom or
something of emotional importance to the owners.
